Build Your Creative Courage
We give Newfoundlanders and Labradorians of all ages and all skill levels non-competitive, fun opportunities to push themselves creatively.
THE PAST YEAR
We had a great 2016. Here are a few of the things that happened.
Newfoundland and Labrador artists created 111 albums of original music for the 2016 RPM Challenge.
We got very close to hitting the 1,000 album-mark of albums recorded by Newfoundland & Labrador artists as part of the RPM since 2008.
24 per cent of the local albums on The Overcast’s album of the year list were originally recorded as part of the 2016 RPM Challenge. (6 of the 25 on the Borealis Long List)
CBC NL’s On the Go with Ted Blades hosted a live radio and web broadcast from the RPM Challenge finish line at Rocket Bakery.
2016 MusicNL award-winner It Could Be Franky started as a 2016 RPM project.
A $10,000 grant was awarded to Unpossible NL from the Memorial University Office of Public Engagement to create our new youth-focused Math Circles program.
23 people performed at our final Stand-Up Challenge Gala at the LSPU Hall. Half of them had never done stand-up comedy before that month.
61 bakers registered and made more than 1,500 cookies for our 2016 St. John’s Cookie Throwdown competition.
Our social enterprise — St. John’s Paranormal Supply Co. — started in August at the St. John’s Farmer’s Market. More than 800 cups of artisanal soda were sold over just eight market days.
